A cure for diseases caused by roundworms.
The 2015 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded for discoveries of effective and safe therapies against infections caused by roundworms. Hundreds of millions of people in the tropics suffer from these diseases. For example, lymphatic filariasis, better known as elephantiasis, affects at least 100 million people. Helminthiasis, that is, diseases caused by such worms, is almost untreatable and much more difficult to treat than bacterial diseases. It is possible to find substances that kill the bacteria and do no harm to humans. Finding a substance that kills the worm without killing the person is very difficult.
Task: Identify the main problem that had to be solved in the creation of the cure.
1) the enormous swelling of the lower extremities typical of elephantiasis
2) the toxicity of existing antiparasitic drugs
3) peculiarities of biochemical properties of substances that kill bacteria
4) imminent death of nematodes parasitizing in the host

Grading Criteria for the Biology Final Examination, Grade 7
The system of evaluation of individual tasks and the work as a whole.
A multiple-choice task is considered completed if the answer number chosen by the student coincides with the correct answer. All multiple-choice questions are graded with 0 or 1 point.
Short answer assignments are considered completed if the written answer is the same as the benchmark. Short answer exercises will be graded 0, 1 or 2 points. Tasks with short answer are considered to be solved for 2 points if the written answer of the pupil completely coincides with the correct answer; 1 point is awarded if there is an error in one symbol; 0 points in the rest cases.
Maximum score for the entire exercise is 22.
